#oneofmanypostcard

Updated: Feb 20, 2021

1/many Postcard is charity fundraising initiative on Instagram started by @johnapedder - a printmaker based in Sheffield. #oneofmanypostcard. The idea is simple - artists create a postcard sized piece of art, a painting, print, collage etc. They send it our for free, in return, the recipient pledges to give a donation to the value of what they think the piece is worth to a charity of their choice.

Charity income is down at the moment because of Covid 19, so this is a great time to support. The beauty of this idea is that you get to help a cause that's close to your heart, and it can be local, national or international.

January 20th 2021is the date set for another round - and artists all over the world are taking part. I created some '1' prints - after all it's my first time - and it's called '1/many'. The design is a combination of some of the patterns I'd carved on my Retro Ceramics series of prints. The colour is cut paper with a black overprint.

I've had over 30 requests for cards - mostly from the UK, but also Switzerland, Germany, United States and Ireland. So nice to feel that 30 people from all over the world will be helping other people because of something I've done. (With the help of #Instagram and #oneofmanypostcard obviously!)

In November 2020 I requested 4 cards - The clever two sided bird cage from @conspicious_cafetiere which lives on my anglepoise. 'Poppies' by @lindelchew a lovely personalised 'K' from @marie.mindthegap in France, and of course 'Hope' from the founder @johnapedder himself. I made a donation to local Cirencester charity 'The Churn Project' @churnproject churnproject.org.uk

As a participant its a chance to show off your work and get to know fellow artists, it's interesting what people decide to put on their postcards and seeing all the styles, colours and techniques. Hearing afterwards about where the donations go is an added bonus.

Updated February 2021

As promised here is the update - these are the ones I requested - three of them came from Canada. I Ioved grouping them together and framing them. A mixture of colours, styles and subject matter but they kind of work together.

And below are some of the '1's I sent out, it's so nice seeing where they end up and hearing about the charities that have been supported.

I plan to do something cat based next time - printmaking people and cats seem to go hand in hand! Look out for the next #oneofmanypostcard later in the year, it keeps on growing!
