The ongoing Saga...

Updated: Aug 16, 2020

I love combinations of green and yellow and how you can put different patterns together and get away with it! My Saga and other forms print is based on more pieces of pottery from my kitchen shelves.

I have used my Sagaform plates so much the pattern is wearing off. This is a 1960s inspired design for Swedish company Sagaform by Lotta Odelius, this pattern is called 'Retro'. The mustard yellow mug is marked P&K underneath - which I think stands for Price & Kensington, a manufacturer of earthenware pottery operating out of Longport, Stoke-on-Trent from the 1960s. I spotted this in a charity shop in my hometown Cirencester. The coffee pot, was bought from my friend Olly, must have been one Ebay win too many for him at the time. It's Irish Connemara Celtic earthenware in shamrock green. The patterns on this one are just asking to be scratched into wood to make a nice texture. #sagaform #pricekensington #connemaraceltic

Here's the process from marking out the design on plywood, colouring the whole thing black so I can see where I have carved, then deciding how best to simplify and capture the patterns while considering where to apply the colour.

After I've chosen and cut out some colour combinations in various shades of green and yellow paper - I'm all ready to print. The perfect addition to a kitchen or cafe wall! https://www.ballardcreative.co.uk/ceramics
