Lockdown 2020 - the perfect time to get some more prints under my belt. #lockdownart
Growing plants from seed was definitely the way to go this year - a plant (and moth) loving friend, Joff, popped a bunch of seed packets through our door. Morning Glory was one of the varieties, and soon I had a healthy tray of them - their leaves are an interesting and attractive shape.
One bright April morning I sketched the tray of seedlings - this time I very much had the final print in mind, the strong shadow down the side I had a feeling would work well.
I projected the sketch from my computer, onto my wood and drew it out with a marker pen. This transfer method is nice and easy - but translating into a woodcut carving had to be carefully considered to maintain the contrasty effect.
This print has just a touch of colour on the label - my first attempt at text within an image.
Morning Glory is part of my produce collection, printed in dark green, it goes well with Greenhouse stroke shed or Sussex Trug.
The finished print - and the beautiful flowers didn't turn out too bad.
