Very excited to be taking part in this in July...

A chance opportunity came along - Emma Stuart from Corinium Museum in Cirencester was looking for people to put on a 'Keeping it Local' art exhibition in their gallery space. She asked me if I knew other artists who'd like to join me. I roped in my friends, George with his 'Corvid' photographs, and Jak with her 'Saori' free-weaving - and so 'Wings, Wood, Weave was born. Please visit the exhibition any time in July.
Wings, Wood, Weave.
A group exhibition at the Corinium Museum Cirencester.
Photographs by George Brooks.
Woodcut Prints by Katie Ballard.
Weaving by Jak Harrison.
George has been a world travelling corporate photographer for 30 years. Katie enjoyed time as an Art Director in a local marketing agency and is now self-employed and part owner of a nursery equipment supplier. Jak is a writer, walker, self-taught weaver and soon to be canal boat owner. All based in Cirencester, George, Katie and Jak have explored hands-on or close-to-home creative activities in recent months – a reflection perhaps of the odd times we have been living through.

George’s subject matter fell down his chimney one morning when he was woken by the sound of two young jackdaws trapped inside. After setting the birds free, his interest grew in these creative and mysterious corvids. His photographs capture fleeting moments of the birds’ movement in stark poetic detail.

Katie took up woodcut printmaking a few years ago, initially as a way to use some spare sheets of plywood. The prints draw on Katie’s eclectic mix of retro ceramics, her garden produce and her cat, Darwin. Each print has a story behind it. The Church of St John Baptist in Cirencester Market Place with its resident peregrine falcons is one of her most popular images. See more at ballardcreative.co.uk

Jak came across ‘Saori’ free-weaving while researching the 19th Century textile industry for her second novel. Inspired by her daily walks, Jak captures images of nature, rivers, canals, ever-changing skies and the details and textures of old buildings. She has created fabrics and scarves that represent seasons, moods and emotional connections. Each scarf is unique and made with natural yarns.
